Cladding Metals History

1. 1964— 1978 experiment research stage

Before 1964, explosive process industry was blank in China. In order to meet the requirement of national major project, we carried out many explosive welding and explosive molding experiments. In Nov. 1966, the first explosive welding composite plate in China was born, which laid a solid foundation for the future development.

Subsequently, we used explosive moulding technology in end enclosure, which resolved the bad-need of composite materials of water-making device, double-metal hydraulic pressure cylinder, condensator of main generating set, feedwater heater and main circulating water system, etc, which won “National Science Conference Award”

At the beginning of 1970s, missile launcher end closure was developed, which won “National Science Conference Award” In 1978, we made use of the principle of “flying plate” that elastic stress wave is transmitted inside solid medium to develop “endergonic block protection method”of endoporus explosive shell, which created a good condition in explosive welding technology’s application to composite pipe. This technology won “Major Technological Reconstruction Result Award” (second prize)

2. 1978— 1984 Development Stage

On the bases of systematic research into the dynamite suitable to large-panel explosive welding and experiment in explosive welding parameters of multicoat accelerating region, we initiated “step method”of explosive welding parameter test, which not only fixed weldability window of explosive welding of metal material combinations, but also enhanced working efficiency. The technology won “Liaoning Science & Technology Progress Award” (first prize)

Besides composite plate, we went research into composite tube, composite rod, explosive welding of equipment tube and tube plate of heat interchanger, explosive expanding of large ball valve core, and explosive and rolling process, etc., which was satisfied.

In 1982, we developed aluminum/steel reducer union connecting steel claw for electrode of electrobath of aluminium metallurgy plant and aluminum conduction rod, which has been extended and applied to the aluminum factories all over the country, more than 500,000 blocks in total. Copared with conventional processing machine, interface resistance drops from 136 microohm to 0.3 microohm, with a good electricity-saving effect. Statistically, it has saved about 10 billion kilowatt-hour in total.

Chen Huojin as Chinese representative presented the 7th International High-energy Processing Conference at the University of Leeds, who issued academic dissertation which won a good reputation, and who was given special reception. Through 40-year efforts, now our composite materials have been applied to petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, machinery, electronic, power, automobile, light industry, aerospace, nuclear industry, ship-making, etc, such as: slide plate, copper aluminum reducer union, sleeve pipe, silver copper contact material, high-intensity wrought aluminum and the welding of stainless steel composite pipe, etc. Especially, it is widely used in pressure vessel industry, above 70% of total composite plates.

3. 1984— 1989 extension stage

According to the contract (No. 388015) of key technological developmental item of Sinopec, The Research on Stainless Steel And Vessel Steel Explosive Composite Plate Property, Dalian Explosive Working Research Institute, together with Beijing Petrochemical Designing Institute, went research into 321/15CrMo explosive composite plate of petrochemical hydrogenation unit, and the combined property of nine materials (304/16MnR、321/16MnR、 1Cr18Ni9Ti/16MnR、1Cr18Ni9Ti/20g、 1Cr13/SM41B、1Cr13/15CrMo, etc.) of petrochemical pressure vessels, and used 321/15CrMo explosive composite plate to manufacture prehydrogenation reactor, hydrogenation dearsenic reactor and hydrogenation dewaxed reactor, which passed industrial test in Fushun Petroleum Third Factory and the expert appraisal conference organized by the Development Department of Sinopec, and which broke through the opinion from American experts which explosive composite materials can’t be used in hydrogenation unit.

4. 1989— current rapid development stage

Concentrated on scientific and technological achievements’transfer into productivity and the industrialization of metal composite materials, Dalian Explosive Working Research Institute relied on our own advantages, worked hard, utilized the advantages and bypassed the disadvantages and innovated constantly; Under the development policy of market-oriented and the synchronous development of technological development, market development and technological reconstruction, we got developed rapidly. Now we realized full-closed production and have large-scale production capacity.

In 1989, through expert appraisal, “explosive process and explosive composite material”was listed as National Torch Plan Project which is the first one in the same industry;

In 1990, on the National First Technological Loan Results Expo, explosive welding composite material won “Gold Arrow Gold Award”;

In 1995, the explosive stainless steel composite steel plate for pressure vessel was awarded “National New Product”;

In Aug. 1995, the explosive welding technology of clad sheet steel was listed into the executive unit of National Technological Result Major Extension Plan by The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The equipment technology center of Sinopec accepts our products as recommended products of petrochemical engineering construction.

China Petroleum Materials Equipment Corporation accepts the company as first-class supply network of China National Petroleum Corporation.
